I’m talking about games such as Open Arena, Sauerbraten, Red Eclipse, Warsow, Xonotic, and others. But yes I agree with going with Arch and depending on your taste, KDE, Gnome, Cinnamon, or my favorite Xfce will give you the Desktop environment. Youll have to add in all the other components as you need though. I last discussed them over five years ago, very briefly, and haven’t really looked at them since. Technically Arch is the lightest, since itll only give you the most bare bone components of linux.
I intend to start off with a series that looks at the current state of native Linux FPS games. I also will fill in additional posts by covering Linux games on my primary laptop. Possible candidates include antiX, SparkyLinux, ROSA, Parsix, Zorin, Makulu, Simplicity, and a few others. This plan still leaves me with at least eight distributions that I can review between now and May. I looked at Xubuntu 2 years ago, but have never tried Lubuntu. But now all of them are outdated or just bulky. My previous favorites were Bunsen Labs Hydrogen, LXDE Lubuntu and Arch Openbox, and Arch i3. I want to find a good lightweight distro for my old laptop that I use for programming and playing CTFs. I also want to review the new edition of Lubuntu or Xubuntu. Hello, I'm a linux user since 2016 and I've been distro hopping since. I think it wouldn’t be fair to look at a release that will be obsolete in 3 or 4 months. These include Bodhi Linux, elementary Linux, Linux Lite, Neptune, and possibly one or two others. Therefore, I’ve decided to put off reviewing them until after they release a new edition. Lubuntu uses LXDE, which is an extremely light weight distribution. Lightweight Linux distributions are designed with speed and efficiency in mind.
The distro is unusual in that it loads itself entirely into RAM on bootup, so is incredibly quick and. If your Windows or Mac computer is old and struggling to keep up, installing Linux can give it a fresh lease of life. There are several which are based upon the Ubuntu LTS with some changes. But if you can’t manage Arch Linux then the best distro on these systems would be Lubuntu. Puppy Linux is the smallest Linux distro in our round-up - it's just a 132MB download. Actually, most Linux distros are using systemd to manage the system processes, but antiX doesn’t like systemd. antiX is a very different distro, it isn’t like Debian or Ubuntu.
I have been looking at various 32-bit distributions of Linux to see how to fit reviews in over the coming months. antiX is a fast and lightweight Linux distribution. LTS stands for Long Term Support, and unlike the other twice-yearly Ubuntu releases, the latest edition of Ubuntu will be supported for five years, as opposed to nine months for the three editions that are released in between. In the Linux community these days, the end of April in even-numbered years means that Ubuntu Linux will release what is called an “LTS” version of their operating system.
